December 16, 2024, Rockville, MD – The Autism Society of America celebrates the unanimous passage of HR 7213 by the U.S. House of Representatives, marking a critical milestone in the reauthorization of the Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act. This bipartisan achievement underscores Congress’s steadfast commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with Autism and their families across the United States.

Following Senate approval on November 22, 2024, the bill returned to the House for final passage due to an update in the law’s expiration date, as outlined in a continuing resolution.

The Autism CARES Act has been pivotal in advancing Autism research, improving access to essential services, and supporting evidence-based programs that elevate the quality of life for individuals on the Autism spectrum. Its reauthorization reinforces the federal government’s role in addressing the evolving needs of the Autism community across the lifespan.

“The Autism Society of America commends Congress for its unified support of the Autism CARES Act,” said Christopher S. Banks, President and CEO of the Autism Society of America. “This legislation ensures the continuation of critical research, services, and programs that empower individuals with Autism to thrive. We eagerly await its enactment by President Biden.”

The Autism Society of America extends its heartfelt gratitude to Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and Susan Collins (R-ME) for championing the Autism CARES Act in the Senate, as well as Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Co-Chairs of the House Autism Caucus, for their unwavering leadership in the House.

As the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots Autism organization, the Autism Society of America remains dedicated to advocating for policies that promote inclusion, opportunity, and empowerment for all individuals with Autism and their families. We look forward to seeing HR 7213 signed into law, ensuring the continued progress and support that this critical legislation provides.
