Welcome to Module 3: Community Settings and Lifelong Safety

Extending Safety Across Everyday Life

Water safety should move with the person. Public pools, beaches, schools, camps, hotels, recreation programs, and community activities may each introduce different environments, expectations, sensory experiences, and supervision needs.

As Autistic individuals grow, planning should also evolve. Supports that were useful in childhood may need to change as autonomy, relationships, transportation, recreation, employment, and independent community participation expand.

Lifelong water safety is a shared and evolving practice. Strong plans are reviewed after changes, practiced across settings, updated after incidents, and centered on dignity, inclusion, communication, and individual needs.
