AuQUA Life: Water Safety, Water Engagement, and Healthy Living Across the Lifespan

AuQUA Life is a growing Autism Society of America initiative focused on supporting safer,
healthier, and more inclusive relationships with water for Autistic individuals of all ages.
Grounded in education, prevention, access, and community support, this work goes beyond
instruction alone to help families, caregivers, professionals, and partners build safer and
more meaningful water experiences across the lifespan.

Why AuQUA Life Matters

Water can be a source of joy, regulation, movement, confidence, community, and health. It can also be a place of very real risk. For many Autistic individuals, water holds a strong sensory, emotional, or recreational appeal. At the same time, differences in communication, wandering, impulse control, environmental awareness, and access to inclusive supports can increase vulnerability around water.

AuQUA Life exists to respond to that reality in a fuller way. This initiative is not only about reducing harm, though prevention remains central. It is also about helping Autistic individuals and the people who support them build safer, healthier, and more engaged relationships with water across childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and later life.
