This video explores how to prepare for pools, beaches, lakes, splash pads, and other public water environments. Learn how advance planning, clearly assigned supervision, environmental review, and shared meeting points can reduce uncertainty and risk.
Before Arrival
Review the environment in advance when possible. Consider exits, water access points, crowding, noise, parking, routes, and whether the setting matches the person’s support needs.
Onsite Planning
On arrival, identify lifeguards, barriers, quiet reset space, bathrooms, shade, first aid, and a clear meeting point. Shared expectations reduce confusion later.
Supervision
Public settings are especially vulnerable to assumptions that someone else is watching. Direct supervision must be assigned clearly and maintained actively.Public access does not reduce responsibility. It increases the need for preparation.
