Understanding Risk in Everyday Moments
Water risk is not limited to obvious situations like swimming or time at the pool. It often appears in everyday moments—when a door is left open, when a routine is disrupted, or when a child moves quickly toward something that feels familiar or calming.
For many Autistic individuals, water can be especially appealing. It may offer sensory input, predictability, or a sense of calm. At the same time, differences in communication, impulse control, and awareness of danger can make those moments more complex and more urgent.
