Vipin Gopal

For over 25 years, Vipin Gopal, PhD, MBA, has successfully led data, AI and digital transformations at multiple Fortune 100 companies ranging from healthcare to aerospace. With his deep-cross industry expertise and innovative mindset, Vipin is recognized as a leading authority in reimagining business models through advanced technologies. Vipin currently serves as the Chief Data and Analytics Officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), a $120B Fortune 25 company. In this role, he is responsible for leading next-gen, transformational data strategy and execution, as well as development of AI capabilities and solutions for various WBA businesses in the healthcare, retail, and pharmacy sectors. Before joining WBA, Vipin was the Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Eli Lilly, a global pharma company, and as Senior Vice President of Analytics at Humana, a Fortune 50 health services company. Prior to Humana, he held leadership roles at Cigna, United Technologies Corporation and Honeywell. In 2022, he was recognized as the inaugural Global Executive of the Year by the Chief Data Officer Magazine. Vipin was also listed second in the list of top Chief Data and Analytics Officers globally by the Technology Magazine in 2024, and was a recipient of the Analytics Leadership Award by Indiana University Kelly School of Business. He has served on the advisory committees of many national and international conferences and is the founding chair of the Indianapolis Chief Data Officer (CDO) Forum. In the recent past, Vipin was quoted in Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Scientific American, Nature and Forbes. Vipin obtained his doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University and B. Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, both in engineering, and has an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business. Vipin is Corporate Directorship Certified by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). He has served as Chair of the Advisory Board of Greater Louisville International Professionals (GLIP), President of India Association of Minnesota, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) Foundation, and the Advisory Board of Magellan Health. Vipin and his wife live in Carmel, IN, with their twin boys.
