2024 Election Resources

Why is the Presidential Election Important

Under our democracy, one of the greatest powers citizens have is the power of the vote. The next Presidential Election is November 5, 2024.

The President is the leader of the country, along with many important powers including:

  • Creating ideas that lead to legislation
  • Signing or vetoing laws
  • Writing regulations and guidance to implement laws
  • Enforcing laws
  • Appointing judges and cabinet officials
  • Manage crises domestically and globally
  • Influence the public with access to national communications outlets

In addition to the office of the President, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives, and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate, will be contested in the upcoming elections. Eleven state and territorial governorships, as well as numerous other state and local elections, will also be contested.

Each eligible voter has the power to vote for candidates that will uphold values and conduct change on policy issues that affect everyday life; this means the power of the disability vote has the potential to ensure that all candidates address issues that are important to people with Autism and other disabilities.
