
Rockville, MD, February 6, 2025 — The Autism Society of America is proud to announce the appointment of Jennifer Cook as the new Chair of its Council of Autistic Advisors, as Carly Ott’s Chair term comes to a close.
The Council of Autistic Advisors is a diverse group of individuals who advise on strategic initiatives, contribute to organizational taskforces, and provide critical insights on community issues. Carly has served as Chair since 2016 and has been a critical liaison to the national team, Board of Directors, and numerous task forces during this time. Most recently, she co-led the Suicide Prevention Taskforce to better support Autistic individuals and crisis support centers, as well as our Strategic Plan Task Force.
The Autism Society of America and Council members are thrilled to welcome Jennifer, a renowned advocate and celebrated thought leader, to this pivotal role.
Jennifer shared her enthusiasm for this new chapter: “It’s been an absolute privilege to sit on the CAA and a delight to follow Carly’s astute leadership. As I assume the role of Chair myself, I’m excited to streamline the many ways in which our esteemed council can best serve our organization, transforming their intrinsic know-how into real, hands-on work that will benefit the Autism Society and all of its members across the nation.”
Identified as Autistic in 2011, Jennifer Cook has become a prominent advocate for neurodivergent communities worldwide. She is widely recognized as the on-camera expert for Netflix’s triple-Emmy-Award-winning series, Love on the Spectrum US, and she also stars in Joey Travolta’s Lights, Camera, Friendship! Jennifer serves as an Autism expert for HBO Max, and has consulted with leading companies such as Twitch and Amazon.
Jennifer is the author of nine bestselling books available in eight languages, including The Asperkids (Secret) Book of Social Rules, Autism in Heels—a Wall Street Journal Bestseller—and My Friend Julia: A Sesame Street Book About Autism.
An alumna of Brown and Columbia Universities, Jennifer contributes to groundbreaking work in the field through her consulting work for Congress’ Autism Research Panel.
