Module 5
Sustaining Belonging Through Leadership and Systems
Belonging is sustained through leadership behaviors, feedback loops, and continuous improvement—not one-time initiatives.
Belonging is built on consistency
Belonging does not happen by accident. It is created through daily experiences—whether expectations are clear, whether support is reliable,
whether differences are respected, and whether employees feel safe asking questions or requesting adjustments.
Autism-informed organizations treat belonging as a long-term practice. They invest in manager development, collect ongoing feedback,
and adjust systems when barriers appear. Over time, this reduces the need for constant self-advocacy and supports retention and growth.
Sustainability levers
- Leadership modeling: inclusive behaviors are consistent and visible
- Training and support: managers are equipped to implement supports
- Feedback loops: employee input leads to visible changes
- Metrics: progress is tracked in meaningful ways
- Recognition: diverse strengths and contributions are valued
Simple metrics to track
- Time-to-implement supports after a request
- Percent of teams using agendas + written meeting recaps
- Clarity-of-expectations pulse survey item (quarterly)
- Retention trends by team/role (identify hotspots)
