Autism Society of America Applauds Senate Passage of HR 7213, Near-Final Step in Reauthorizing the Autism CARES Act

Rockville, MD, November 22, 2024 —The Autism Society of America commends the United States Senate for its unanimous passage of HR 7213, a bipartisan bill to reauthorize the Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act. This significant step reflects the unwavering commitment of Congress to improving the lives of individuals with Autism and their families across the nation.

HR 7213 will return to the House of Representatives for final approval since the continuing resolution changed the date of the law’s expiration date. We are confident that the House will swiftly act to ensure continued support for critical programs and services that make a difference for the Autism community.

The Autism CARES Act has been instrumental in advancing Autism research, expanding access to services, and supporting evidence-based programs that improve quality of life. Its reauthorization reaffirms the federal government’s leadership in addressing the diverse needs of individuals with Autism across the spectrum and across their lifespans.

“The Senate’s unanimous passage of HR 7213 marks a pivotal moment for the Autism community,” said Christopher S. Banks, President and CEO of the Autism Society of America. “This reauthorization ensures the continuation of vital research and services that empower individuals with autism to lead fulfilling lives. We urge the House to promptly approve the amended bill, reinforcing our nation’s commitment to those we serve.”

The Autism Society of America thanks Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and Susan Collins (R-ME) for introducing and championing the passage of the Autism CARES Act of 2024 in the Senate, along with the unwavering commitment of House Autism Caucus Co-Chairs, Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) in the House.

The Autism Society of America remains committed to advocating for policies that empower individuals with Autism and their families. We look forward to the final passage of HR 7213 and its enactment into law.
